The Security Council,
Taking note of the information and answers provided by Special Envoy Mr. Ali Larijani at the 7th Meeting of the Security Council,
Reaffirming its commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT),
Recalling resolution 1696 (2006) of 31 July 2006, resolution 1737 (2006) of 23 December 2006, resolution 1747 (2007) of 24 March 2007, resolution
1803
(2008) of 3 March 2008 and resolution 1835 (2008) of 27 September 2008,
Bearing in mind the joint letter from 14 June 2008, signed by the Foreign Ministers of China, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, the United
Kingdom, the United States of America and with support of the High Representative of the European Union, offering to work together with the Islamic Republic
of Iran on a modern nuclear energy programme with a guaranteed fuel supply,
Condemning that the Islamic Republic of Iran defied all previous resolutions and has not stopped its uranium enrichment programme as it has been
demanded by the Security Council,
Acting under Article 41 of Chapter VI of the Charter of the United Nations;
1.Affirms the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran;
2.Reaffirms that it refrains from intervening in the governmental affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran;
3.Draws attention to the Middle East conflict, especially regarding the impact it has on a consensus between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the
international community;
4.Calls for direct negotiations between the international community and the Islamic Republic of Iran;
5.Proclaims its concerns about the Iranian nuclear programme;
6.Urges the Islamic Republic of Iran to stop its uranium enrichment programme, installation of centrifuges and plutonium producing activities;
7.Notes with deep concern that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not fully complied with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA);
8.Urges the Islamic Republic of Iran to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as demanded by its Director General in the
15 September 2008 Report (GOV/2008/38);
9.Decides to remain seized of the matter.
